The assignment is to focus on a particular aspect of the preface and analyze its role in illuminating later scenes in TotS. So, far, I've got (a) the idea to discuss Douglas' description of the narrator, and how it suggests an apparitionist reading; and (b), the idea to comment on this exchange:

...Is confusing me. There are these interludes wherein the narrator's clients discuss their reasons for hiring her, but the names are always off. She takes a job with some people whose surname is Chandler, but the interlude is entitled "Mrs. Dunaway's Reason"...? I've been assuming that these are still the same people, but I'm not totally sure ( Read more... )

SO I STARTED READING DRACULA THE OTHER DAY, JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY. I haven't gotten very far for a lack of time- Harker hasn't even gotten to the flipping castle yet- but so far I'm finding it ridiculously adorable. Harker's got such a cheery tone, and the little notes he makes to himself about getting recipes for his fiancee are just precious.
